Set the high pass filter of your front speakers to say 70-90Hz, then running the system at normal listening levels adjust the sub's level and crossover frequency for the most accurate sound. It's all very personal so you just have to play. I tend to find that I have a little more bass than true so I end up with my fronts crossed over at 90Hz, and the sub in the trunk crossed over at 80Hz ish for a good blend. As the sub has more power it fills in the 80-90Hz.

The resonant frequency of the sub is where the driver is most efficient, and draws the least power. You have to take this in to account when designing an enclosure, but not really when setting your crossovers.

Jon.
