Subject: Convert Passive to Active |
|
|
I have a passive sub and was wondering if there is a way to operate it as an active sub. The home was setup with two cables that have been fished through the walls so that a powered sub could be connected, but the sub that came with my system is passive. What we are trying to avoid is having wires showing in our living area (God knows that I could live with it, but my wife can't). We also don't want to put any holes in our new walls.
My thinking is this....locate a separate amp next to the sub and plug the cables into that amp. I would then run wires from the amp to the sub. I'm not certain what configuration to use for hooking up the wires on the sub and whether or not to run wires from just one set of speaker jacks on the amp or use both. Any thoughts or recommendations you can offer regarding the functionality of this type of setup would be appreciated. I'm trying to avoid sinking money into an active sub and since I have a spare amp, I thought it worth investigating.
Thanks,
Brother G
