This has been going on for a while around here and its time I had a rave about it wOOx: the way I see it ( and I have seen it in its over hyped corner of the apliance store ) A passive radiator behaves quite similar to a port. There may or may not be advantages to having series tuned pr's/ports but I just don't get how a PR can give virtual box volume. Nobody every said 'Hey stick an extra port in your box and it sounds bigger!' If its a series tuned port then when the f drops right down, the highest tuned one will just start 'breathing' in and out, and the lower tune PR/port won't do anything as all the backwave is leaking out the high tuned one. My impression is the " wOOx slave " is there with the same resonant f as the port and the box behaves as if it were a 2 port reflex. The difference is you have a fancy little PR on the top that you can watch pop up and down to the bass. May be I just don't understand but thats how I see it. The 6th order PR/Port idea: ( this should definately be tried ) This is the one thing that would convince me that wOOx realy is something new, if someone opened up a wOOx box and found this inside. I tried modeling a few 6th BP and found I could get a pass band that looked a bit like a 4th but with HEAPS of gain, the problem was one side was always quite small and had a very low tune. It was always next to impossible to port such a box BUT a PR could do this no problem. If such a box was put together ( even with two PR's ) the results could be very intresting.
