If its Optimus from Radio Shack than smaller woofers of those series is better. I first bought the 12 inch. It didn't budge to make sound. Then I returned it and bought two 8 inch woofers from Radio Shack. The specs looked a little better than the 12 inch also it hits harder. You can still use the 12 inch woofer but you need a powerful amp to power it. The 12 inch woofer might have a 20 ounce barium-ferrite magnet. This magnet type is powerful than ceramics magnet woofers but not enough ounces to move the cone at low volume levels. You might have to turn the amp half way to start making any kind of noise.

On my spec sheet the specs are off including the Xmax. My two 8 inch woofers are very loud in the bass regions. I think it has a 14 mm peak to peak for the Xmax instead of 4 mm peak to peak. Before one of my woofers got a dent, the woofers put out so much electromagnetic field that the T.V. got all messed up. It shook every thing that surrounds it with just little power. Right now I have it hooked up to my computer that I put together and I jumped a few times in certain games and movie scenes. If I reconed them and put it in a better box. Then I will be able to see some furniture move or SAF increase by several times.
