Subject: Re-use of old drivers |
|
|
22 years ago I built a pair of tri-amped speakers using KEF drive units. Each box has a B300-B bass driver ( 13" ), a B110 SP1057 midrange, and a T27 tweeter. The Amps are 3 channels of 240W RMS ( MOSFET ) in each cabinet, with electronic x-overs at 300Hz and 3kHz.
These units have worked fine till recently, but now some of the original non-polarised capacitors are getting a bit tired, causing intermittant loss of sound and permanent loss of quality.
I could just replace them all, and carry on as before ( I designed the amps myself, so that would be easy to do ) but I would prefer to re-use the bass drivers in a new sub-woofer box with some up-to date front/centre/rear home theatre speakers. I can re-use the bass amps as well, so all I need is suggestions for the cabinet design and the cross-over/bass boost filter.
Any comments will be gratefully received.
