Went BACK to the local car audio shop today. Explained my problem to them as this. I have a baby little Alpine V12 Mrv-t503 Amp and i have my 2 12" DVC hollywood excursions rated at 350 rms 650 peak. Wired in series and bridged on my little amp. My box is roughly INSIDE dementions 14"h 36"w 8" d I told them Hey I had to crank the gain WAY down on the amp it is bassing me out the car. They Suggested adding 2 MORE dvc 12" 's In there. What Gives?. Why would they say that.? I can not exactly Crank the Amp up and do many tests cause The Area I own my house is rather Um CONSERVITIVE I have to tone everything down when i pull in for they like to call the 5.0 On all (hypocrites) If you could lead me in a path to start. It would be helpfull thanks

more to add sorry. I have the DVC wired in series and both feeds wired to the amp bridged. I believe the amp is 500max bridged. I can not find any info on the amp. My box does NOT share the volume i have a divider in there all is 3/4 MDF and drywall screwes and a Hella lot of glue and 2 coats of 100% silicone the subs are 12" hollywood excursions model 1255-d 4ohm per Voice coil. amp as i said alpine head unit is a chitty Pioneer No EQ's No Epicenters I use the built in crossover in the amp. It has a bass boos that i might try disabling. Wife and I have had conversations over all the trunk space and all i want to do and she is now supportive instead of argumentative. As for the baby situation She utilizes the back seat. No dynomat or anything like that yet. Car is a 1988 tempo ALL WHEEL DRIVE <---- Next project. I think thats all the info you may need. Primary problem is With the radio set all to center and 0 too much bass so i go -4 on the bass. And the gain on the amp is 1/4 the way up. And they suggested 2 more. I dont get it.....

I don't understand. . .you have too much bass, and they said add more subs. . .????
Only thing I can figure out: are the subs in too much airspace? A car sub should be tuned to make good bass around 35 Hz, and the car cabin gain wil expand the bass on down into the 20 Hz range. If yours are tuned too low, along with the cabin gain you may be getting too much bass in the lower frequencies.
Or, it could just be you are making more bass than you like. . .In that case, your local stereo shop guys are crazy!!!
Ever thought about getting rid of one of the subs?? If not, just keep the gain turned down; doesn't hurt anything to have extra power for headroom on subs.
Am I missing something?? . . let me know.
Brian

Nope you didnt miss anything. I thought they were crazy also. Only thing I can gather is they are thinking maybe add more subs to take more amp power. For now I am gonna keep the amp down. One Sub is a little week. 2 and it is over powering me. I think it may just be i have been out of the Loop for some years and i am just not used to it. When I am alone in the car and am driving i can "stand" the radio all the way up and want more bass. I was thinking of adding a 3 way crossover in the glove box for a little more controll. and also maybe help even it out by adding some more power to the doors and rear speakers. What Ya think.... It prolly is me just getting old LOL

Two things come to mind:
(1) the input level to your amplifier is way too high. Where's it coming from? It might be possible to turn it down.
(2) If you've got any sort of bass boost control on the amplifier, it's set way too high. Turn it down.

Hey just a thought ... use a test cd with frequency steps and measure what freq. the bass is getting too strong, then use an active crossover to step that particular frequenct down.

a test cd I picked up says to me that 165 175 cycles is where it is loudest. I dont have a crosover as of yet i just use the one in the amp so i suppose I am gonna buy a active crossover and mount it in. active is ok aint it?

165-175 cycles? That's a bit high for for a subwoofer. Check the amplifier to see if the x-over is actually engaged.

insainity is the key to all i suppose! Well Played with the amp some and got it at 3/4 gain 9-10 bd boost. 0 degrees on phase i tried both phases. 0 saounded better Have the amp crosover set at er gatta think here 140 - 150 i think On the LP filter yea thats about it. I have a kinda DUMB question now. I can still crank it all the way up and Stand it but at like 42 the radio goes to 46 I think it is starting to distort badly and i KNOW i am no where near the watts thoes 12"'s can take. Is it the head unit or i am pushing out the amp too far and i need a biger amp. Money is a issue but not a relitive restriction, In my area I can get legacy Rockford Boss Um Pioner a few other kinds. If the speakers can handle 350 rms 650 peak and i have 2 what watt amp do i want to get? Any solutions would be great. I also dont know if i should push them all the way to the 350 wats. If i blow em i have a warrenty and gives me a reason to buy the jl w3's hehe Advice please?

A bigger amp doesn't hurt.... turn the LP xo on the sub amp to 100hz or below. I tend to keep it @ 80hz or a little below in the car environment. The wierd peaks etc. or too much SPL could be caused by the mud created by the sub above 100hz...
You have to remember that anything above 80hz is no longer omni-directional, which means you can tell where it is coming from... the distortion you are hearing is probably the head unit.... depends if your 44 or 46 is 3/4 volume or so....

Ok here is what i did besides pulling my hair out, I went and got a boss rt-635 1200w I know before anyone says it it is not a ture 1200w The crossover which is in it really sucks and now i have no play money so i have to wait to get a active crossover. Anyway I STILL have the same problem but only sooner on the dial now. My next step is to think that the box i built is wrong! I think It could be a little on the small size i cant find my figures to see if i encluded the speaker volume and added more space to make up for it. I honestly cant remember., Now back to the amp. It is running in stero NON bridged. LP filter is on and i am accepting 80h I have the 18db boost on which i may change! So I am getting lost and frustrated, help?

Get rid of the 18db of boost... as that may be distorting things a bit.... crank the gain half way or so and slowly adjust from there.

what does resonance sound like? Is it like a echo sound or somthing after the note hits? Or is that more of a distortion?

cool I will try it later tonight i am on 24hrs no sleep yet. One more thing I have my 12's Dual voice coils wired in series. Should i change it? So it is like this now
Left channel out to sub vc1+ to vc2+ vc1- to vc2- Right channel out to sub vc1+ to vc2+ vc1- to vc2- They suggested not to bridge it to run it in stero. I do know I need a active crossover so i can use my other amp for other speakers....

Well you can run the voice coils in parallel if you are using stereo.... amp should take it.
and on your question about resonance... resonance is the one note when everything in the car goes BMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM........
test tones can find that note real easy.
